How to Know Gods Will

In this eStudy Guide by Dr. Ian Bond you will learn how to know Gods will for your life and for important decisions.

Note: Please DO NOT contact me to point out that a possessive noun requires an apostrophe! I KNOW that it should be "God's Will" not "Gods Will." However, it seems the web-surfing public either do not know or do not care about using correct punctuation in emails, text messages, and searches. I realize I sound like my colleagues from the English department at the College where I serve! The fact of the matter is that people are entering "how to know gods will" in their Google, Yahoo, and Bing searches... so if I want this article to be found and read... well you get my point!

“Do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” (Ephesians 5:17)

Learn how to know Gods will for your life and for important decisions. There is no need to stumble through life bewildered and confused, imploring heaven for divine guidance. God has a plan for your life; and it is his desire, by one method or another, to reveal his will to you.

Topics covered in the eStudy Guide:

Your calling and how to fulfill it.

God’s basic will for every Christian

Eight scriptural methods by which God makes his will known to us.

Make Your Calling Sure

I. Make Your Calling Sure

a. “Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your CALL and ELECTION SURE, for if you do these things you will never stumble.” (2 Peter 1:10)

i. kaleo), to call; to INVITE, SUMMON (noun: kletos, called, invited to a banquet).

1.The point at which God confronts you with His call is the most significant moment in your life.

Your whole destiny will be determined by the way you RESPOND to the CALL of God.

II. Relationship to the Purpose and Plan of God.

a. Romans 8:28-30

i. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been CALLED according to his purpose. For those God FOREKNEW he also PREDESTINED to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he PREDESTINED, he also CALLED; those he CALLED, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.”

1. “All things work together for our good” applies only to those who respond to God’s call.

b. 1 Peter 1:2

i. “[God’s elect] who have been CHOSEN according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood.”

c. Before the call of God comes in our lives God did three things which happened in ETERNITY:

i. proginosko, FOREKNEW us: Knew us before we were born, from eternity.

1. prognosis, in Greek means “advance knowledge” (a technical term in medicine from the time of Hippocrates).

2. It is found in the LXX with at Judith. 9:6 with reference to the PREDETERMINATIVE knowledge of God. (Kittel)
